6 Best Backpack Diaper Bags for Active Parents

Parent wearing backpackPeople seem to be obsessed with backpack diapers bags. Just 4 short years ago when I had my first daughter, I didn’t even know they existed, and now they’re everywhere. To me, they seem to have just come out of nowhere. Every diaper bag company has their version, and each one is unique and exceptional in their own right.

Now that I have another little one in the house I have jumped on the backpack diaper bag bandwagon. Only this time I’m packing for two.

I have put together a list of what I think are the best backpack diaper bags out there today.

But First, let’s talk about what makes these bags so popular.

Why are Backpack Diaper Bags so darn popular?

There are so many reasons why these diaper bags are so great, and it’s hard to know where to begin.

The amount of space is fantastic, especially when you’re packing for more than one child. You can cram so much stuff in there it isn’t even funny.

The pockets for packing are generally numerous and roomy. Not to mention all of the specialty pockets you can find. These pockets can include but are not limited to wipes pocket, bottle pockets, mommy pocket, and change pad slot.Parent and Child

Being able to wear your diaper bag on your back and be hands-free for playtime outside, all-day outings and even diaper changes are quite handy. The straps are so very comfortable. You never have to worry about your diaper bag hitting the dirty public washroom floor again. I don’t even want to think about the germs stuck to your diaper bag after that encounter… Yuck!

There are so many different styles out there that you will be hard pressed not to find one that works for your needs.

Here are my top picks for backpack diaper bags:

Got to say that I am pretty surprised that baby diaper bags cost so much. Honestly, when I was budgeting I was thinking the $20 to $50 range. But, three of them on your list are over $100. Do you think the ones that are $50 are of the same quality as the cheaper ones? Do you think it’s worth it to spend a little extra money for the more expensive diaper bags.

    1. Hi Garen,
I have had diaper bags under $50 with my first daughter and I can confidently say from experience that they are not of the same quality. I’m pretty hard on my diaper bags and the lower priced ones just couldn’t stand up to the abuse. This time around I have upgraded to the higher end bags and couldn’t be happier. It’s a bit more of an expense up front but it will save you money in the long run. If you use the bag for 2+ years, you will likely have the higher end bag for the whole time and it will still be in great condition. But with the under $50 you will likely have to replace it a couple times within the same time frame, the price will end up being about the same in the end. If a high-end bag isn’t an option and your budget can stretch a little, I would suggest looking at some mid-range bags. There are some great options out there for $50-100. But you will have to do your homework to find one of good quality. Good luck in your search.

NIce article. That is great information. I just had my first grandchild about a month ago so I will share this with my daughter as I am sure she is need of more stuff still. Thanks so much for all your hard work putting this together.

  3. Kaleb Lilly says:

    Hi Stephanie.
I think the backpack diaper bags are wonderful! I have a bad back, so carrying around a heavy diaper bag with my arms KILLS my back after a few hours. The backpack diaper bag seems to solve this problem.

  4. Dustin says:

We had our first grand baby 2 months ago. I was looking for a diaper bag to give as a gift to our son. Thanks for the information good ideas!

  5. Sophia M says:

I have been looking for a backpack diaper bag for a while now. I never see one at Target or Walmart, they all carry the same generic shoulder bag which is impracticable because you can’t hold your baby and hold the bag comfortably at the same time.

To be honest, I like the Ju Ju Be Vector diaper bag meant for “fathers only” because it looks urban and slick. I guess I a more of a tomboyish mom myself? I don’t really go for the floral or typical mom print. I like that you have options for all kinds of moms and dads.

Which bag do you reccomend for long time travel, like airplane trips?

    1. I’m with you on the look preference, I don’t go for the girly options either. My current everyday diaper bag is all black. For a long trip, I would choose the Itzy Ritzy Boss backpack. It’s big enough to fit all your travel needs, the straps are really comfortable for long-term wearing and the rubber bottom will keep the bag completely clean for when you have to put it down. Thanks for your question and good luck in your search.

    Thanks again!

  7. Mike says:

I sent a link to my wife from your website about the SUNVENO DIAPER BACKPACK . She said she was going to take a look, but this is my second comment, because I wanted to see if these great prices are a sale or the regular price.
If she doesn’t get on it soon , I will!

    1. Admin says:

Thanks for staying in touch. The price listed for all the bags in the post is the regular price, though you can find them on sale at Amazon on occasion for even less.

  8. Liz says:

My husband is great with children. (He should be as I meet him when he was a cast member at Disney.) But, he had such a hard time being convinced to carry my daughter’s diaper bag.

We have a diaper bag that is green with multiple flowers. It kind of looks like a purse. We go to Disney a lot so we need a bag that will be functional as well as he would be willing to carry.

So, I think that the Ju Ju Be Vector Diaper bag would be a great “congulations your a second-time father” gift.

    1. Admin says:

I know where you’re coming from, my husband wasn’t keen on carrying a girly diaper bag either. This time around I have made an effort to get diaper bags that he would like as well and he even requested I get the vector for him. It has been a hit in our home and I’m sure it will be in yours as well. Happy Shopping!

When i was raising babies ( 25 years ago), our only options for diaper bags were the standard style. They easily ripped and if you had to carry supplies for more than one you were just out of luck. I had to resort to a gym bag. And that is not very attractive.
I love these Backpacks and now know what to get the all the expectant mothers in the family. Thanks so much.
